About dropchan

The name "dropchan" comes from "drop," the smallest unit of XRP. dropchan is an XRPL NFT art collection featuring 10,000 unique girls.

With over 300 outfits, 200 expressions and poses, and 100 backgrounds, each of the 10,000 girls is created from more than 2,000 different art elements.

Welcoming characters from a wonderful variety of collaborators along the way, illustrator ciana has spent over four years gradually bringing this world to life through hand-drawn vector art.

Where the name comes from

The smallest unit of XRP: drop. That is where the ‘drop’ in dropchan comes from. ‘Chan’ is an affectionate Japanese suffix, often added to girls’ names.

When I learned that XRP’s smallest unit was called a ‘drop,’ I thought the sound was so lovely. Ever since, I had wanted to make something around that motif.

More than four years in the making

Work on dropchan began in March 2022. From then until its release in June 2026, I kept drawing, revising, and drawing again, refining dropchan over more than four years. That is how dropchan came to be.

Over 2,000 parts, drawn one by one.

With the exception of a small number of contributed assets, all 2,000+ parts that make up dropchan, including hair, eyes, outfits, accessories, and backgrounds, were individually created by the artist using Adobe Illustrator. No generative AI was used in the creation of the artwork.

dropchan is a small project created by an artist and an engineer.

ciana creates the artwork and world of dropchan.

The engineer tequ handles the technical side, including generating the 10,000 dropchans, royalty calculations, and building the website.

Together, we bring dropchan to life through our different areas of expertise.

Combining the parts was just the beginning.

dropchan is a collection generated by combining many individually drawn parts. I first generated around 100,000 combinations, reviewed every one, and selected 10,000. But that was not the end.

I then went through all 10,000 individually, adjusting color combinations, positions, overlaps, and the overall look by hand wherever needed.

The highlights in the hair when a headband is added, for example. The volume of the hair beneath a cap. The balance of colors between an outfit and its background. Whenever something felt even slightly off, I adjusted it.

dropchan begins with generated combinations, but the work does not end there.

dropchan is made with SVG

dropchan’s artwork is created as vector art in a format called SVG. Vector images keep their lines and shapes sharp when enlarged. You can enjoy the artwork at the size of a wall without losing that clarity.

More than 90 collaborators

dropchan collaborates with more than 90 creators and projects, mainly from Japan. The artist draws their characters and motifs in dropchan’s own style.

The distinct charm of these creators has brought more color to dropchan’s world.

When a collaborative dropchan is traded on the secondary market, a portion or all of its royalties are distributed to the collaborator involved.
